the next edition in the FIFA video game franchise

THIS season's football fixtures are coming to an end this month, with the Euro 2016 championships arriving in June - but some footy fans are already looking to the next edition in the FIFA video game franchise.

FIFA 17 will arrive in September this year and, hopefully, with some fresh and innovative tweaks that will make the playing experience more enjoyable from its predecessor. With every new game comes new artwork and a star player featured on the front cover.

Wayne Rooney held the crown as 'Mr FIFA' from FIFA 06 to FIFA 12, before Barcelona and Argentina international forward Lionel Messi took centre stage from FIFA 13 to the present edition (FIFA 16). And with EA Sports allegedly looking at other Fifa Coins before renewing Messi's contract for the game, we could see a new face on store shelves.

One thing is for certain, Barcelona and Brazilian striker Neymar Jnr and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature as both are currently under contract with Konami developer and publisher of Pro Evolution Soccer.
